After eight years, this once thriving farm to table Grandview concept is closing its last location

It’s the end of an era for Columbus farm-to-table concepts.

This morning, the Grandview-based craft butcher shop and grocery store, The Butcher & Grocer, has announced its last location will close after eight years.

The shop will close for good on Oct. 1.

“This ranks in the top two hardest things I’ve ever had to go through,” Tony Tanner, founder and owner of The Butcher & Grocer, said in a press release. “We have poured our hearts and souls into this business, and it has been a privilege to serve our customers over the years. However, the time has come for us to close our doors.  The growth of the company is in our processing facility for our farmers.  We will continue to wholesale on a limited basis, but co-packing for our farmers is where I will be focusing my time.”

The Butcher & Grocer offers meat sourced entirely from Ohio farmers, in addition to local beer, snacks, groceries and more.

After opening in 2016, the concept expanded, launching its own restaurant, Cleaver, next to its Grandview butcher shop in 2020. Butcher & Grocer also expanded in central Ohio, opening in the East Market, which closed last year. Cleaver closed in the summer of 2022. The concept also opened its own production facility on the east side, called TB&G Meats, in 2021.

“I want to thank our loyal customers for their patronage over the years,” Tanner said in a press release. “It has been a true honor to be a part of their lives, and I will miss serving them.  We’ve really been through a lot together.”

Tony Tanner noted he is open to selling the business if a buyer becomes available.
