Oregon player who spit in face of OSU defender, was ejected from game, issues public comments

While the Buckeyes lost a close game in crushing fashion over the weekend to the (now in-conference, believe it or not) Oregon Ducks, we at least were able to enjoy a contest with plenty of excitement.

Big plays? Check. Game going to the final second? Check. Drama? You better believe it.

In the first half of Saturday’s game, Oregon wide receiver Traeshon Holden spit in the face of Buckeyes defensive back Davison Igbinosun, for which he was ejected from the game.

He recently issued a statement about the incident on X.

“I want to sincerely apologize for my actions during our recent game. My actions were not only disrespectful but also a betrayal of the values of sportsmanship, integrity and respect that I strive to embody as a student-athlete,” Holden wrote. “To Ohio State, I offer my sincerest apologies for my behavior. It was completely unacceptable and a momentary lapse in judgement. I want to empathize that this incident does not reflect who I am as a person or the values I aim to uphold.”

According to Oregon head coach Dan Lanning, he will face additional punishment, although the details are currently unclear.
