All incoming 7th graders must have one dose of the meningococcal vaccine and all returning 12th graders will need a second dose of the vaccine under a new Ohio law.
Sponsored by Republican Sen. Cliff Hite of Findlay. Hite has said that his family learned how important meningitis vaccines are, as his niece passed away hours after contracting the disease.
Students could be exempt for several reasons, including medical or religion, but other than that it applies to all 7th and 12th grade students at public and nonpublic schools subject to regular state standards.
