Canadian artist Timothy Schmalz found himself leaning toward depicting Jesus as something other than the perfectly trimmed and clean figure often portrayed. His work has been installed around the world, but Monday the artist was in Columbus for the installation of one of his pieces at Bishop Ready High. The bronze statue appears to be a man covered in a blanket on a bench, but with nail piercings coming out of his hands and feet. “I think this is how Jesus wants us to perceive him because he always attached himself with the marginalized, the broken, the homeless,” Schmalz said, according to the Dispatch. In some areas where his statues are installed, people have called the police, thinking it is a real homeless person.
