Update: White Castle’s new development rises in Short North

white-castle-02The times they-are-changing. And so are the plans for the 11-story mixed use space above the Short North White Castle. Borror Properties presented their design plans this month, and after getting some feedback, they’ve changed the design – but not by much. The space is staying enormous, but they’ve reduced the number of apartments (now there’ll be about 140 units) and added more commercial/office (about 2,200+ square feet). They’ll also add a 266 space parking garage with 126 public spaces.

But the MOST important design element is the remodeled White Castle restaurant which anchors the building. The new restaurant will be “state of the art” and feature open-air dining, while honoring the company’s long-standing fast food legacy. So it’s no surprise that Borror’s wants to have the project done by 2016 – the 95th anniversary of the White Castle slider. (deb)

Because who hasn’t wanted to live above a White Castle? (deb)
