Short North’s Monarch Lounge “no longer continuing” operation

Monarch Cocktail Lounge owner Shawn Shahnazi announced the closure of the Short North Lounge in a Facebook post Sunday:

The closure comes in the wake of two shootings that occurred near the club earlier this year. Shahnazi told 10TV that news coverage of the incidents and city involvement led to his hiring extra security, which he could no longer afford.

Monarch operated in the Short North for two years. While the closure announcement leaves the door open for the concept to be revived at a new location, no such plans have been revealed at this time.
