Seven patriotic ways to celebrate this Fourth of July in central Ohio

Avatar

Fourth of July is still a week away, preparations and scrambles to the nearest firework stores have already begun. While it would be ideally patriotic to DIY your own red, white and blue celebrations, here is a list of some central Columbus events that have already done the planning for you.

Independence Day Celebration, Dublin

Starting off bright and early, the city of Dublin kicks off their patriotic celebrations with a fishing derby in Avery Park and parade in Metro Center, Historic Dublin. Following the morning events, attendees can travel to Dublin Coffman High School for a concert by GRAMMY nominee Martina McBride and fireworks starting at 9:50 p.m.

Freedom Fest, Hillard

Food trucks, fireworks and fair rides – activities that all practically scream “USA!”. Taking place at Municipal Park, this year’s Hillard festivities will offer various fun activities and wys to celebrate –including live performances from Big & Rich, Alexis Gomez and Harper Grace.

Fourth of July in Bexley

Just a short drive from central Columbus, Bexley’s annual independence day celebrations are back in full gear. With a morning parade, evening festivities and fireworks following soon after at Capital University’s Main Street lawn, there’s no better way to celebrate this July.

Party in the Park, Upper Arlington

Featuring live music, entertainment, and various food trucks and vendors, Upper Arlington’s festivities are perfect for a night of all-ages fun. Taking place in Northam Park at 5:30 the festivities will last until the firework display at 10 p.m.

Fun Zone, Westerville

Kicking off Independence Day, patrons can participate in a morning Kids Fun Run or a 5K walk/run, swiftly followed by a parade at 10:30 a.m in Uptown Westerville. For those who don’t identify as a ‘morning person’, Westerville Sports Complex will open its doors starting at 5 p.m. with games, inflatables, live music, food trucks and – of course – a highly anticipated firework display.

Independence Day Parade & Festival, New Albany

The Fourth of July is well known as a family-friendly holiday – and New Albany has made their festivities the perfect place for just that! The celebrations will begin with a traditional independence day parade, but quickly transition to a night of activities including balloon twisting, bounce houses, face painting and fireworks to cap the night. Food trucks such as Dos Hermanos, Kona Ice and WingTime will also be present throughout the event.

Outdoor Concert, Ohio Wesleyan

The Central Ohio Symphony will be showing their patriotic colors this July with a free, outdoor concert at Phillips Glen, Ohio Wesleyan University. While you can pay to reserve seating in front of the symphony, general area seating for the concert is free – just make sure to bring your own lawn chair or blanket. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. with fireworks following the concert’s close.
