University postpones filling Mirror Lake to Wednesday
UPDATE: OSU has pushed back filling Mirror Lake by a day. The process was slated for Tuesday, but is now pushed to Wednesday after crews began to install pipe. Once the pipe is installed into the lake, water should begin pumping back and fill the drained lake.
Previously: Mirror Lake to be a lake again, university filling it
Mirror Lake with the help of an underground well, will once again be a lake that actually has water. Last year, the school drained the lake because it was actually a leaky lake, and OSU was buying water from the city to fill it daily with 50,000 gallons to keep it from becoming empty, the Dispatch reported. Tuesday the lake will begin to fill with water from an underground well, and if it continues to use the well water could actually save the school $40,000 a year. The question still lingering in the minds of students though is if it will be ready for the (totally not university sanctioned) yearly Mirror Lake jump in November before the Michigan game. The plan is to drain the lake once more to seal the bottom of the lake, and it is unclear if it will be filled at that time.
