How you can inspire rejuvenation of endangered buildings

Structures like the Cooper Stadium, Livingston Avenue Theater, and Holy Rosary School have been a part of Columbus’ quilt for years but the stitches are beginning to unravel.

Many, many historical buildings in Columbus have been placed on the Columbus Landmarks Foundation’s endangered list due to neglect. These structures are at risk of demolition, destruction or irreparable damage.

If you recognize any of these places, you probably also recognize how badly they look.

But you could help change that.

The Columbus Landmarks Foundation is hosting an event where you can reveal your big idea for one of these endangered buildings. It could in any medium, be it a blueprint for a redesign or a sketch, song, prose, or video.

“Will a poem really inspire a developer to purchase a property to  re-use/salvage/renovate/or ‘save’ one of our Endangered Buildings from demolition from the wrecking ball?  Maybe not, but this event is designed to raise awareness of these sites in a fun, festive, campy, creative and celebratory way,” said Nicole DeVere of the Columbus Landmarks Foundation.

They believe that creative ideas for adaptive reuse may be a catalyst for redevelopment.

If you don’t have any bright ideas, come admire the creativity of your neighbors and sip on a drink–it is a happy hour get together after all.

The event is called the Idea Competition for Endangered Buildings and is happening September 21  from 6-7:30pm at the Idea Foundry.
