City overwhelmed with Short North Parking, hiring consultant to handle it

The City of Columbus is so sick and tired of dealing with parking issues in the Short North that they’ve washed their hands of it. City Council voted today to contract with a consulting firm who will be tasked with communicating with residents, business, and employees about public meetings and surveys regarding Short North parking.

The Dispatch reports the city was ready to launch a plan to resolve the parking overcrowding last year which involved splitting up residential areas on both sides of High Street into permit zones and offer smartphone payment options for those without a permit. But then residents piped up to express their lack of faith in the plan so the city canned it.

The new parking overseer envisions smartphone payment systems, license plate readers for enforcement and eliminating hang tag permits could all be part of solutions.
