Crew SC: Austin residents rally against 2 stadium options

Since Austin has offered up city parkland for potential stadium sites for a Major League Soccer stadium, shit has been hitting the fan with residents.

Austin’s top runner, Butler Shores Metro Park, along with Roy Guerrero Metro Park were both promising possibilities for Precourt to relocate Crew SC but then public outcry sparked. The Dispatch reports several dozen people gathered at Butler Shores over the weekend in opposition of building on the parkland.

“They don’t appear to have support from the community, primarily Butler Shores, but there are general concerns about Guerrero, as well,” Tovo told the American-Statesman per The Dispatch. “Based on all the calls and emails our staff is getting, I don’t think either site is a viable option.”

An Austin council member promised the protesting constituents that she would drum up a resolution that would remove the two metro parks from the running.

Take that, Precourt.

Last week, one Austin location option was taken off the table because of it’s poor location. Now, the remaining two locations being considered are an empty lot at 10414 McKalla Place off North Burnet Road, and a former Home Depot at St. Johns Avenue and I-35.
