7 wacky records set in Columbus

Columbus is home to a lot of bright people who help get us on to national lists like this onethis onethis onethis onethis onethis one, and this one. However, we don’t think our shining residents who helped put Columbus on the world’s record map are getting enough credit. Whistling the highest note ever recorded? That’s most definitely something to write home about.

Here are seven wacky records that have been set in Columbus.

Longest Hula Hoop Session
Aaron Hibbs stole the world record for longest hula hooping marathon by a single person using a single hoop in 2009. Hula hooping for more than 74 hours straight, he received the help of 100 people in accomplishing this goal.

Largest Meatball
In 2011, the Columbus Italian Club broke the world record for largest meatball at over 1,100 pounds. This ginormous meatball took three days to cook!

First Beer Hotel
Columbus claimed “world’s first crowd funded craft beer hotel” in 2018 when BrewDog opened The Doghouse Hotel. Showers have mini beer fridges and beer-infused products in them. There’s also a tap in every room—talk about a beer lover’s heaven.

Longest Snake in Captivity
At more than 24 ft, 300 lbs, the late Fluffy the python of The Columbus Zoo held the title for longest snake in captivity in 2009. Fluffy sadly passed in 2011, but not after receiving great acclaim and making it to The David Letterman Show.

Highest Note Whistled
After years of annoying friends and family with his incessant high-pitched whistling, Dillon McBride was encouraged to go for the world record for highest pitched whistle, which he won in February 2018 at 7040Hz.

Try whistling this! 🗣🎶👂🤯 The highest note whistled is 7040 Hz (A8 standard notation), and was achieved by Dillon McBride in Columbus, Ohio, USA. “I could not whistle until about 8th grade but was obsessed with whistling songs ever since and am known to annoy my family, friends, and roommates with high pitched whistling.” After being told he was so high pitched he sounded like a dog whistle and being advised to look up the current record, Dillon checked the Guinness World Records website and decided to take on the challenge. The rest is ear-shattering history. __________________________________________________ #whistle #highpitch #whistling #guinnessworldrecords #sound #officiallyamazing #highnotes
