Columbus Brewing will open taproom once again for a special release event

Jack McLaughlin

In the last six months, the iconic Columbus Brewing Company taproom, located at 2555 Harrison Rd., has remained closed other than to release their first-ever bourbon barrel imperial stout offered in bottles, Steel Dawn, last month.

That is, until now.

On Dec. 4-6, the brewery will open its taproom again for the carryout-only release of two beers that have never before been packaged for retail sale. Tracksuit Santa (6.8% ABV) is a holiday ale brewed with orange, ginger, and cinnamon, and is priced at $10 for a 4-pack of 16-ounce cans. El Sabrero (7.3% ABV) is a hazy IPA featuring Sabro hops (a newer variety used in several previous CBC IPAs) and El Dorado hops. A 4-pack of 16-ounce cans will cost $16.

“These are two beers that we’ve done before and have had in our taproom, but it’s the first time they’re being put into cans. El Sabrero was featured on tap a few times as one of our hazies, and we started making Tracksuit Santa last year as we moved away from our winter warmers,” said Evan Magliocca, Columbus Brewing director of marketing

These beers can be pre-ordered here, and you can order knowing there’s a good cause behind your purchase as well. All proceeds from sales of Track Suit Santa are being donated to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. So while you drink good beer, you also do a good deed.

And the brewery is releasing more than just these two beers in the near future as well.

The newest iteration of their highly-coveted Insane Wanderer series–an IPA that features a rotating blend of hops with every batch and is released several times each year–is now out in stores. Insane Wanderer Vol. 8 highlights a tantalizing combination of Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops.

Additionally, two other perennial winter favorites from the longstanding Columbus brewery are set to hit shelves sometime this week. Ohio Stout, the 8.3% ABV stout brewed with Brioso coffee, will be released in limited amounts, alongside one of my all-time favorites, Uncle Rusty, a 9.3% ABV hoppy imperial red ale.
