The king of the lobster rolls

Julian Foglietti

In the spot once occupied by The Fish Guys sits the new storefront of Coastal Local Seafood in The North Market. Owner Ian Holmes started Coastal Local Seafood as a way to provide the highest quality fish to restaurants in the Columbus area. Named a “Tastemaker” in 2017 by Columbus Monthly, Holmes’ fish could be found in popular Columbus restaurants like Lupo, La Tavola, and Skillet.

With the closing of many restaurants due to COVID-19, Holmes developed a new business plan to bring restaurant quality seafood to the home chef–creating a seafood delivery service which has since transformed into a new stall and restaurant in the North Market.

While the incredible selection of fish is sure to make any seafood lover blush, it was the cool dockside-style walk-up restaurant and the amazing lobster roll that sent (614) over the top.

Served on a fried buttered roll made by Omega Artisan Bakery, and made with some of the best lobster from the inland states, the lobster roll created by Coastal Local Seafood has the perfect balance of cool and creamy lobster to warm, crusty bun any seafood lover would crave.. Served with a side of skinny fries dressed with a house seasoning, the combination may have you smelling the salty mist of the seaside.

For those not interested in lobster, the food stall also features plates of steamed mussels and other dockside favorites. Coastal Local Seafood is open during the standard North Market Hours of Tuesday-Saturday 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For those looking to enjoy seafood without leaving home, online ordering and delivery is available through their website here.
