Columbus City Schools considering fully remote learning this fall

Columbus City Schools Superintendent Dr. Talisa Dixon released a letter to CCS staff Sunday afternoon saying that they will “need to give serious consideration to beginning the school year with a fully remote learning model.”

Previously, the district’s Reopening Task Force has recommended a blended model of both remote learning and in-person instruction. However, citing the most recent COVID-19 numbers, Dr. Dixon said that might no longer be possible.

“An important recommendation from [our] health experts included seeing four consecutive weeks of decreasing number of cases in order for schools to reopen safely,” Dr. Dixon wrote.

“Even with implementing social distancing on school busses and in the classroom, it is still a challenge to bring students and employees back safely if the rate of infection does not begin to trend and sustain downward.”

Dr. Dixon added that it is their hope that they will be able to have students in the classroom, and a final decision has yet to be made.
