From gym shorts to white coat

On Monday The Ohio State University College of Medicine welcomed the Class of 2024 in a ceremony in which the future doctors donned their white coats for the very first time.

This group of students included former Buckeye basketball player Aaron Craft.

“The new chapter has begun! Excited, a little nervous, and extremely grateful to start a journey I’ve thought about for so long,” wrote Craft in a tweet. Then joking about his new outfit, he added, “I’ve always liked our home white jerseys!”

Craft finished his basketball career with 1,314 points, and school records in both assists (694) and steals (337).

“You are joining an amazing group of individuals who have sworn to be caring, empathetic, devoted, selfless, and bound to the mission of caring for humanity,” interim dean Dr. James Rocco said at the ceremony. “You are coming of age at a time when medicine is more important than ever. Our communities are counting on us to save their lives.”
