Bexley bakery to open new retail space this fall

Cherbourg Bakery is moving, but not very far.

Owner Geri Peacock is planning a grand opening Sept. 9 for a new 547 S. Drexel Ave. space that will feature an espresso bar and a large display window.

“We want it to really have a European feel,” Peacock said.

The current location at 541 S. Drexel Ave. will serve as the bakery’s kitchen, a production space closed to the public save for pre-paid pickups.

“The space has always been tight,” Peacock said of the 750 square-foot spot.

The new space, at about 1,200 square feet, will feature about 14 indoor seats, as well as outdoor bistro tables facing streetward. The interior will include espresso bar seating as well as counter seats, and even a “book nook” adorned with recipe books.

In addition to featuring espresso for the first time courtesy of Mission Coffee, the new retail space will also offer an updated menu featuring all the gluten-, nut- and dye-free sweets patrons have come to love since Cherbourg opened in 2011.

“We’ll have a lot more options,” Peacock said.
