Fried Chicka Bang and Meatball Mafia team up for new chicken sandwich

Sarah Sole

Quick Columbus, think of two foods you love.

Pizza and chicken, you say? Samesies.

Fried Chicka Bang and Meatball Mafia have collaborated to bring two of our favorites together for a delicious result: The April O’Neil, a pizza fried chicken sandwich.

Meatball Mafia owner Robert DelliQuadri said Fried Chicka Bang reached out to inquire about collaborating.

“My favorite thing about Columbus is the people who are willing to take changes and put themselves out there,” he said. “We’re dreamers! And I’m really excited for our customers to give [Fried Chicka Bang] a try and support another group of local dreamers.”

Maria Swallie, who operates Fried Chicka Bang alongside her sisters-in-law Megan Stasko and Meggan Stasko, said they’re always looking for other brands to help elevate Fried Chicka Bang’s crispy chicken sandwiches.

“We have treated our staff to [Meatball Mafia’s] pizzas on multiple occasions, and it was a no-brainer for us to team up with them for a collaboration,” she said.

The April O’Neil is Fried Chicka Bang’s Crispy Chicken Sandwich topped with Meatball Mafia Marinara Sauce, melty mozzarella cheese, and Ezzo pepperoni, Swallie said. The sandwich will be featured from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. through Sunday, Feb. 28 at Fried Chicka Bang’s Polaris location at 8461 Sancus Blvd. and Arena District location at 277 W. Nationwide Blvd.

And the name?

Turns out the Fried Chicka Bang owners are big fans of 90s cartoons, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

“As a female-ran business, we love shouting out our favorite females throughout the 90s,” Swallie said. “April O’Neil, with her support and secret friendship of the turtles, makes her the perfect person to name our sandwich after.”
