Germany-inspired brewery, restaurant holds grand opening

Just in time for Oktoberfest, Plain City’s 1487 Brewery is now open fully open. The brewery, which focuses on traditional German beer styles, held its official grand opening on Sept. 18. It’s located at 7620 Industrial Pkwy. in Plain City.

And even though 1487 cut the ribbon (literally) last weekend, they’ve actually been open in some capacity since the summer of 2020.

“It’s a little crazy; a little complicated”, said owner Ben King with a laugh.

Operating out of a massive Plain City-based brewpub, restaurant, and taproom, the spot first began brewing their own beer last August, holding crowler and growler sales from their parking lot.

They then opened for dine-customers in November, food service from their full on-site restaurant launched in December, and their slate of craft cocktails was released this August.

“It’s been a process. And this is the first time we’ve really felt open,” King said. “We’ve been hiring since last year, but now is also the first time we feel like we have enough staff to be fully open too.”

1487 brews mostly iconic German classics, like the helles, Marzen, altbier, and hefeweizen, with the occasional contemporary must-haves, such as their New England IPA. This is complemented by a slate of local guest beer and wine.

From their full Kitchen, the Plain City brewery serves up crispy chicken sandwiches, burgers, a variety of soups and salads, and even—staying on brand—several traditional German eats, like bratwurst and schnitzel.

The new brewpub held an Oktoberfest event last weekend that will continue into this weekend as well. On Sept. 24, 25, and 26, 1487 will host live music and boot beer specials both inside and on their spacious patio.
