Looking for a healthier alternative to all the rich, calorie-laden holiday meals we’ve been enjoying recently? A newly-opened Columbus restaurant has just the thing for you.

Roots Natural Kitchen, a national chain of health-conscious eateries now in five different states, officially opened the doors of its first Columbus location on Dec. 20. The new spot is the first Roots location in Ohio as well.

The restaurant is located at 10 E. 15th Ave. in the University District.

The eatery is situated at the intersection of 15th Avenue and High Street, which was previously known as 15th and High, was formally renamed University Square at The Ohio State University earlier this year. After the area was renamed, Roots Natural Kitchen was one of several new restaurant additions. The others include LemonShark Poké & Makai Grill and Bubbles Tea & Juice Company.

Roots Natural Kitchen features fast-casual service and build-your-own bowls made of healthy and natural foods. Bowl bases, which can be customized with different proteins, dressing, and a variety of other toppings, include Arcadian greens, brown rice, bulgur, kale, and spinach.
