Quirky Italian Village bar featuring “wall of denim” to open soon
Italian VIllage has a new option for drinks.
Daily Bar, located at 883 N. Fourth St., plans to open at the end of this month or the first week in November, according to owner John Blakely.
Blakely, who also owns and operates the Daily Growler, cited a unique motivation to open the new Italian Village spot.

“The Daily Growler IS a bar, we do more of our business on premise than in growlers to go, but because growler is in the name (even after nine years) some people still don’t know you can drink there and that we offer more than just beer, like wine and mixed drinks,” he said. “So I wanted that to be unmistakable for this venture!”
Blakely also sees the new venture as a passion project that will allow him to branch out more than we could at the Daily Growler. “I was also excited about the opportunity to put a little more of myself in this business,” he said. “The Daily Growler is a family business and established brand; that isn’t always the right place for my eccentricities and my love of vintage, plus my tendency toward non sequiturs.”
Located in a 2,000 square foot building that was constructed in 1900, Blakely notes the bar’s interior atmosphere aims to blend design styles from different eras. One of its centerpieces, alongside retro-chic chairs and wooden booth seating, will be a wall of denim.
The bar will feature 40 taps for craft beer, cider, seltzer, a large menu of spritzes and digestifs, and what Blakely dubs as the best selection of ports in all of Columbus.
