Veritas duo to open new wine shop

As soon as restaurants closed last spring in the state-mandated shutdown, Veritas General Manager and Sommelier Greg Stokes got to work putting his restaurant’s wine online.

The gambit worked. Within two weeks, Veritas had liquidated its entire wine cellar through online orders. And when space became available, Stokes and Veritas Chef Josh Dalton decided to give the popular online wine business its own brick-and-mortar location in the same building as Veritas.

“It’s a business that was born out of Covid,” Stokes said.

Accent, located at 49 N. High St., is slated to open in late spring. Stokes said the roughly 1,400 square-foot space will have an intimate feel, featuring an international selection of wines for a variety of budgets and preferences.

“We want to give them the best bottle without all the pretentiousness,” Stokes said. “It should be fun.”

Stokes certainly has the know-how to do so. He’s soon sitting for the master sommelier exam, and in 2019, Veritas was named one of the hundred best wine restaurants in America by Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

“It’s taking some of that passionate expertise and applying that also to everyday wines,” Stokes said.
