Columbus company develops CBD line for pets

Even Fido gets stressed out sometimes. 

A Columbus-based wellness brand recently launched a line of CBD products specifically made for pets: CBD oil and CBD dog chews. 

Motive CBD CEO Corey Poches said CBD provides pets with the same benefits as humans get: sleep support, anxiety support, and pain relief. 

“This natural, plant-based substance has shown to have high efficacy and positive results within our pets,” Poches said.

CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system and the CB1 and CB2 receptors, which naturally produce endocannabinoids within our bodies, Poches said. 

“What a lot of people don’t realize is that many pets (dogs, cats, horses, pigs, etc.) have the same endocannabinoid system in their body as humans, and CBD provides them with the same benefits as it does humans,” he said.

Motive’s new line includes a bacon-flavored CBD tincture that could be given orally or combined with pet food. It’s recommended for use twice daily. There’s also CBD dog chews, cheddar cheese and bacon-flavored dog chews that contain 7mg of CBD per chew. 

Poches said he’s noticed positive results with his own dog, Matey, a pure-bred lab. The breed is known to be high energy and anxious, and CBD products help Matey with pain and soreness in muscles and joints from running around, and it also helps her stay calm throughout the day and sleep better at night.

“We want pets and humans to live their best life together as much they can,” he said.
