Car drives into, damages, Clintonville comic shop

From the photo—with the store’s front glass window shattered and shelving strewn across the floor—you might think Laughing Ogre Comics, a comic book shop located at 4258 N. High St. in Clintonville, was another victim in the string of robberies occurring in the area.

Instead, it was the victim of a car accident. A vehicle parked in front of the shop accidentally drove into its front glass panel, breaking it and causing some damage to the store. According to a witness who was inside Laughing Ogre at the time, the driver had mistakenly accelerated instead of breaking.

And while thankfully no one was injured, the event was still affecting for those who witnessed it firsthand. “Before I could even register the sound of the vehicle crashing into the store I was grabbing a hold of my best friend and hugging her for dear life,” the customer, who wishes to remain anonymous, said. “We were unable to really focus on anything the rest of the day after that.”

The customer also commended the response of Laughing Ogre. “The staff really did a great job staying calm and responding to the emergency. They let the driver and the passenger sit in the back room to relax and wait for help,” they said. “Thankfully no one was hurt. It was a simply mistake of hitting the gas pedal instead of the brake.”

The comic shop closed early yesterday to clean up the mess, but plans to resume regular hours soon.
