Downtown wedding venue slated for fall opening

A new downtown space for weddings and events is set to open this fall.

GENESIS Downtown, 174 E. Long St, is already accepting bookings for events to take place in November and beyond, said co-owner Taylor Keene.

Keene said GENESIS allows clients to select their own vendors and design the space according to their vision.

“We recognized that there was a need in the market for a venue where people could bring in their own caterer and food without having to give up the overall aesthetic of the venue,” she said.

The venue features 2,700 square feet of flexible space to accommodate up to 150 people. The building boasts 12-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and even chandeliers.

“Located in the heart of Long Street, just steps away from the Discovery District, the historic Standard Building has been transformed into a modern, chic event space,” Keene said.

The building dates to 1912, Keene said, and was part of the city’s revival in the 1910s. It housed automotive, industrial, and sales tenants. Now, GENESIS will occupy the first floor. The second floor will be office space, and floors three through six will house micro apartments.
