The Weekender: Three crazy burgers you can only try during (614) Burger & Beer Week

Alyson Strickler-Vazquez

The burger gods have smiled upon us because (614) Burger and Beer Week is here! You have through Saturday to slam a juicy patty piled high with zany toppings and enjoy a 16oz CBC beer. There are plenty of delicious burgers on this year’s menu, but I appreciate the ingenuity of these three restaurants willing to push our palate.

Pastimes Pub & Grill understands Columbus’ love of Grippo’s potato chips (I have never felt more seen). Multiple locations are serving up the Grippo’s Burger, complete with an all-beef patty, cheddar cheese, sauteed onions, bacon crumbles, Grippo’s seasoning, bacon BBQ sauce, and the crown jewel – Grippo’s potato chips. It took an extra-large bite to make sure I got a bit of everything. The sharp cheddar, salty bacon, and caramelized onions held up against the smoky and spicy Grippo’s seasoning and the chips gave it the desired crunch not to be outdone by the tangy bacon BBQ sauce that dripped down the sides.

The Pint Room Dublin is offering a burger so off the wall, I had to read the description three times. The Smoregous Burger is built with a cream cheese and marshmallow spread, mini marshmallows, chocolate chunks, and a graham cracker. I know, crazy, right? If you have ever dared to try something savory and sweet like chocolate-covered bacon, you understand that done right greatness can be achieved. Pint Room’s burger is juicy and well-seasoned and miraculously harmonizes with the fluffy and creamy spread not to be overshadowed by the sweetness from the chocolate chips and welcomed crunch from the graham cracker. If you are an adventurous eater, I think this concoction is in order.

Must-Try – JoJo’s – loaded with cheddar cheese, lemon herb vinaigrette, sour cream, bacon, scallions, and jalapeno

SeeSaw is elevating your childhood with its PB&J smash burger. The smash patty has become a Columbus icon offering a thin exterior that forms crispy crunchies along the outer rim, maintaining a juicy center. SeeSaw is piling it on with chili peanut butter, grape jelly, and a fried green tomato. The kick from the chili peanut butter is soothed by the grape jelly and one bite into the crispy fried tomato and the juices create an acidic sauce that successfully unites the flavors. Unexpected and delicious, I may go back for round two!

Must-Try – Carnival fries with malt vinegar aioli

You still have plenty of time to try out multiple burgers this weekend, and I recommend getting started tonight! For more information on the delicious burgers awaiting you at participating restaurants check out Burger and Beer Week – 614NOW.
