Açaí, smoothie bowl restaurant opening in Quarry Trails Metro Park

Playa Bowls is bringing its line of healthy fare to Quarry Trails, the newest Columbus Metro Park.

A section at the northern end of the park is set to contain a Thrive Cos. development that will feature retail space, apartments and homes.

Playa Bowls, a new build, is set to be part of this development. The 2,200 square foot space will be located at 2193 Quarry Trails Dr. According to franchisee Brett Coleman, who also operates the campus-area Playa Bowl location, the new restaurant is slated to open in early 2023, although this could change.

“I just think everything that Quarry Trails is, Playa Bowls is too,” he said. “We’re all about an active healthy lifestyle which should appeal to hikers and bikers, we’re about being good to the environment, and everything we serve is real food. I think opening the Quarry Trails store is the dream of a dream.”

Coleman said that the interior of the new Playa Bowls location will have these traits on full display. Not only will the storefront serve biodegradable straws and use recycled materials in its construction, the restaurant will work closely with Metro Parks Strategic Planning Manager Steve Studenmund to incorporate several elements of the park.

“We’re thinking something beachy combined with aspects of biking and rock climbing. We want to make it feel like a unique location, the same way we did with [the campus Playa Bowls]” Coleman said.

The Quarry Trails Playa Bowls will also feature an outdoor patio (the size of which is still being determined) where Coleman hopes to add fire pits.
