Downtown Irish-themed bar has permanently closed

Pub Mahone has closed its downtown pub for good.

The Irish-inspired bar and grill has now officially shut its doors, after planning the move for several months.

Pub Mahone is located at 31 E. Gay St. downtown.

According to a letter addressed to the pub’s customer that was posted on its door earlier this year, the owners of the downtown spot cited rising prices as the reason pub Mahone did not renew its lease at the Gay Street space.

“As I am sure everyone of you is aware, we are living in unprecedented times in dealing with the pandemic. We at Pub Mahone have tirelessly tried to ensure throughout the entirety of this we still provided you the best experience possible,” the letter read. “We never felt it right to increase prices or impact our customers or team members more than what they already had been in life. We attempted many times to work with our vendor and lessor in attempt to lower our overall operating costs, but it was to no avail.”

The letter cited the desire to open a new location in the near future as well, although no details of a new space have been announced.
