Find out which Columbus restaurant was featured on ESPN this weekend

While the outcome of Saturday’s game wasn’t what the majority of Columbus was hoping for, there are still a few silver linings we can take away from the contest.

One of these is the fact that a popular Columbus restaurant concept enjoyed a moment in the spotlight.

ESPN’s “College Gameday” segment—which holds an on-site broadcast for a different college football game every week during the season—was in Columbus on Saturday, and Cap City Fine Diner & Bar was their tailgate food of choice.

The ESPN segment typically highlights a regional restaurant or chef each week.

On the show, Cap City executive chefs Michael Steiner and Todd Kessler, alongside Cameron Mitchell Restaurants President and COO David Miller, were featured preparing food in tailgate fashion.

“Being a part of ESPN’s College GameDay was an exciting opportunity for Cap City and the entire Cameron Mitchell Restaurants’ team. We were privileged to showcase our popular dishes on the national stage,” Steiner said. “Once we started cooking, my nerves disappeared, and we were focused on giving the on-air talent the same great VIP service we give to our guests. The energy from the crowd made it such a fun experience and I am appreciative of all of our associates who supported the segment, including our Regional Chef Michael Ho and Todd Kessler, the executive chef of Cap City Dublin.”

Later, they served the ESPN crew Blue Cheese Potato Chips, Tamarind Glazed Wings and Cap City Meatloaf, which was followed by the diner’s Seriously Big Chocolate Cake for dessert.

According to Steiner, the diner’s cake made a particularly strong impression on one of the ESPN broadcasters.

“One of my favorite moments was when Desmond Howard pulled us aside asking for our Cap City chocolate cakes to be boxed away for him to take home. It is validating to hear that he was so familiar with this fan favorite dessert,” he said.
