Grubhub cuts ties with Russian company behind OSU food-delivery robots

Grubhub plans to end its partnership with Yandex, the Russian company supplying food delivery robots to the Ohio State University campus.

The move comes amidst backlash against many Russian-made products and companies following the country’s invasion of Ukraine, although Grubhub did not explicitly link the ended partnership to the invasion.

“We will be ending our partnership with Yandex. We take seriously our commitment to the universities that we partner with – and ultimately the student diners who order from the Grubhub platform – to make food ordering and delivery available on campus,” said Grubhub spokesperson Katie Norris in an email to 614NOW. “We’re working with our campus partners on alternate service options as we shift away from Yandex over time.”

Ohio State has also announced its support of Grubhub’s decision.

The robots began delivering food on the Ohio State campus last summer, and it wasn’t the only school being served by Yandex robots, either. A fleet of the food-delivery robots were also established on the campus of the University of Arizona last fall.
