It’s Paczki season! Here’s where to find them in Columbus

Jack McLaughlin

Believe it or not, the Midwest actually has its own variety of regional donut and now’s the perfect time to try it.  The paczki (pronounced PUNCH-key, PAUNCH-key, or POONCH-key, depending on who you ask), is a pastry that’s unique and delicious in its own right, and it’s traditionally served on Fat Tuesday.

These Polish delicacies typically pop up in Columbus in February and March every year, and we’ve compiled a list of local spots where you can grab some for yourself. Enjoy them while you can, Columbus, because they won’t be here long.

Wolf’s Ridge

The popular Columbus brewery Wolf’s Ridge is once again teaming up with the Cleveland-based bakery Rudy’s Strudel to offer blueberry and Sweet Moses Hot Chocolate flavored paczki. Available until March 1, orders will be available for pickup and delivery on Feb. 24. You can order your own here.

Sweet CLE-’bus

This formerly online only pierogi-maker now has her own brick and mortar spot, and owner Liz Szabo also makes sure to offer paczki every year. Ordering details will be released shortly, and the treats will be available for pick-up only on Fat Tuesday.

Resch’s Bakery

The longstanding East Side bakery Resch’s has offered paczki annually for years, and it’s no different this time around. Customers can grab paczki from Resch’s starting today until Easter. Supplies will be limited, but they will be available daily.

Rose Dough Donuts

This newly-opened donut ghost kitchen specializes in traditional styles (often with a gourmet twist), meaning paczki is right up their alley. Rose Dough will take preorders for pazcki on their website on Feb. 21 and 27.

Buckeye Donuts

Another Columbus institution, Buckeye Donuts (the OSU campus location) regularly offers the Polish delicacies, and will this year too. Buckeye Donuts will be selling paczki in-store only, on Fat Tuesday and the day before.
