New family-owned Albanian eatery opens in Worthington

Jack McLaughlin

If you’re in the mood to mix things up for dinner, the Linworth area of Worthington is now home to a new restaurant from an underrepresented area in the culinary world: Albanian food.

That’s because Velca Grill, located at 2151 W. Dublin-Granville Rd., is now officially open for business. The new Worthington spot is located at the former site of Blarney Stone Tavern.

The eatery features Albanian and Mediterranean food from owners Arben, Armando and Arnold Velcani. The Velcanis’ food features authentic dishes hailing from the family’s home village of Velca, a central-Albanian municipality with just over 2,000 inhabitants. It includes Mediterranean cuisine, but will lean heavily on traditional Albanian dishes.

Velca Grill officially opened on Feb. 5. It is open from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily, although these hours are subject to change.
