New inclusive, 70’s-inspired bar and lounge opening this weekend in Merion Village

An exciting new bar concept is coming this weekend to the city’s South Side.

Rumours will hold its grand opening on Jan. 28 at 4 p.m., according to co-owner Jackie Sansavera. The new Merion Village bar is located at 1071 Parsons Ave.

The 2,000 square foot spot will feature late 70’s decor mixed with modern design elements and “warm tones of orange and splashes of purple, turquoise, and gold.” It won’t offer its food, but will host on-site food trucks regularly.

Sansavera, a former bartender at Slammers Bar & Pizza Kitchen who worked at the downtown bar for over a decade, wants to incorporate the inclusivity of Slammers, an LGBTQIA-friendly space, in her new concept.

“I’ve wanted to open my own bar for a very long time, and I was very fortunate to have the opportunity late last year. It is not lost on me how important it is to have more female/LGBTQIA-owned spaces visible to the public,” she said. “We want to be a space that appeals to everyone from the South Siders to German Village residents, from the happy hour crowd to the Trivia-goers, from the LGBTQIA community to the sports enthusiast.”
