The Peanut Shoppe first opened in 1936 in Downtown Columbus, and–although it has relocated since–it stands today as one of the oldest retail businesses in this area of the city.

This summer, though, Columbus will have to go without it.

Yesterday, the Peanut Shoppe–which is located at 21 E. State St., announced that it will close for approximately six months to perform “extensive renovations.”

The last day of operation for the Downtown business will be May 7. According to a statement posted to the Peanut Shoppe’s Facebook page, it will reopen no later than Nov. 7.

“We initially thought the closure would be for four to six weeks, but now it will be for six months,” the statement said. The Peanut Shoppe noted that its landlord will be compensating employees in full during the time off.

The Peanut Shoppe also plans to begin operating curbside delivery service in June.
