According to the Ohio Small Business Administration, this year’s small business person of the year is located right here in Columbus.

The Ohio SBA announced on April 30 that Michelle Allen, founder of the botique confectionary Mmelo, was awarded the Small Businessperson of the Year Award for 2022.

The SBA is timing the release of its annual awards to line up with Small Business Week, which runs form May 1-7.

“As an individual, team and minority woman owned business its an honor to receive this level of endorsement and it would be hard to overstate the depth of my gratitude,” Allen said in a statement posted to Mmelo’s Instagram. “As ever, ‘it takes a village’ and we couldn’t have done this without so many of you out there who come rain or shine, continue to support us on so so many levels. Thank you.”

Mmelo currently operates a pop-up in Polaris fashion Place, although this will close later thai month while Mmelo prepares to build out a new production space.
