Owner of popular Columbus BBQ restaurant opening new fried chicken concept on Near East Side

If you’re a fan of The Pit BBQ Grille–the popular barbeque eatery owned by former OSU players with multiple Columbus locations–then you’re going to love what’s coming soon to the Near East Side.

D’Andre Martin, one of four owners of The Pit, is launching his very own fried chicken eatery, known as Just Chicken.

His new concept will be opening in the East Market, the massive 30,000 square foot marketplace with more than a dozen food and drink vendors (including Yellow Brick Pizza, The Butcher & Grocer and more). Located at 1600 Oak St., the East Market is part of the larger Trolley District development.

Just Chicken will feature a concise menu of fresh-cut and batter-fried chicken tenders, a chicken tender sandwich, fries, cole slaw and garlic bread served with every order. The new concept will also offer a signature dipping sauce.

“It’s very simple, all natural and fresh,” Martin said. “The simple menu will help us keep up with food costs too. With barbeque, everything is up and down depending on the market, this will give us more control.”

And speaking of barbeque, The Pit BBQ Grille will also be opening a new location within the East Market. Martin, who will continue to operate as a co-owner of The Pit, said the two concepts will be separate from one another.

“We are thrilled to welcome The Pit to the market at the same time as one of as one of its partner’s, D’Andre Martin’s, new Just Chicken concept,” East Market Director of Operations and Leasing Aubrey Stevens said. “We are proud to be a part of a new venture for D’Andre.”
