Popular Brewery District eatery opening second location inside historic Open Air building

Even though Emmett’s Cafe is a pandemic-born company–opening its first location on South High Street in the fall of 2020–the popular Brewery District spot for artisanal coffee, breakfast sandwiches and more has already announced the grand opening date of a second location.

The new Emmett’s Cafe will be opening inside the Open Air building, located at 2571 Neil Ave., just off the Olentangy Trail and overlooking the Olentangy River. The building is also home to the Understory (a sister brewery to Wolf’s Ridge) taproom and lounge which opened over the weekend.

The new Emmett’s, which held a soft opening on Jan. 22, will officially open to the public on Jan. 29. Open Air will also be home to a Butcher Shop Fitness location.

“I’m excited to see the public roam the halls of this historic building and experience the various concepts within the Open Air development,” said Emmett’s owner Ben Kelley.  “Our location along the Olentangy Trail with public access off Hudson Street will provide the community a food and drink option immediately off the trail that currently doesn’t exist. We look forward to seeing guests bike and walk along the Olentangy Trail and visit us from all parts of the city.”

Chef Jon Hauman was hired to oversee both Emmett’s locations in November, and he will pair with front of house and beverage manager Luke Leffel.

The 2,500 square foot space will feature both a carryout window as well as dine-in space, and according to Kelley, the new Emmett’s will offer an even larger food and drink menu than its Brewery District counterpart.
