See which Columbus distillery was named “USA flavored rum distillery of the year” at Berlin International Spirits Competition

Echo Spirits Distilling Co. opened just over a year ago, but the Grandview-area distillery has already wasted very little time racking up some serious accolades.

At the recent Berlin International Spirits Competition, an annual contest for distilleries from around the world, Echo Spirits was named the USA flavored rum distillery of the year. Judges do not always hand this distinction out every year, as they prefer to award distilleries they are significantly impressed with.

And that’s not all that Echo Spirits took home, either.

Not only did the Columbus distillery receive a gold medal for their pineapple rum, Echo’s straight rye whiskey and signature rum both landed silver medals, and its Genever (a whiskey flavored with a complex variety of herbs) took home a bronze medal.

“We’re ecstatic to have done so well in the competition,” said Echo Spirits founder Joe Bidinger in a press release. “It’s a real acknowledgment of the hard work we’re putting in when making our spirits. We don’t believe in cutting corners, and the judges saw that. In particular, to win a bronze medal for our genever in a European competition was a real blessing. Not only did we win a medal, but the judges ranked our genever higher than any other genever they tasted. We had the best European spirit in a European spirits competition, and that feels amazing.”

Echo Spirits is located at 985 W. 6th Ave.
