Sassafras Bakery, the longtime spot in the heart of Downtown Worthington, closed late last summer.

But now, former owner and baker AJ Perry is part of another popular Columbus baked goods company.

Earlier this week, the Blacklick-based C. Kruger’s Finest Baked Goods (which previously operated a Short North storefront, in addition to its current retail location in Blacklick and a bustling online store) announced that Perry had become their Director of Product Development.

“The closing of Sassafras Bakery was bittersweet, certainly. The pandemic’s restrictions really took a toll—it seemed like the right time to pivot,” Perry said in a press release. “I held every title and position in my bakery over those 14 years—the one I loved the most was product development. So I am absolutely thrilled to get to do DP that every day at C. Krueger’s moving forward.”

Perry also noted that her new role would allow her to lean on her creativity, and that she plans to implement “new and exciting ideas” into the C. Krueger’s process.
