This Columbus bakery is selling a cheese pizza donut, made with tomato sauce and cheese

While we’ve seen a wide variety of holiday-themed sweets, it’s very possible the one we just encountered is the most original to date.

That’s because Rose Dough Donuts is selling a new Cheese Pizza Glazed Donut.

Where do the holidays come into play? We’re glad you asked. According to an Instagram post from Rose Dough, the new donut is inspired by “Home Alone,” the classic 90s movie that’s set around Christmas-time.

One of the movie’s most iconic scenes involves protagonist Kevin McAllister ordering a large amount of pizza to indulge in while his family is away.

“When i started thinking about holiday flavors I didn’t want to do the usual suspects,” owner Katie Passo said. “My husband and I were brainstorming and thinking about Christmas movies and I realized all my favorites had food references, so then we started to roll with that and came up with our Christmas movie collection. When i thought about home alone, this was my first thought.”

And in case you’re wondering, the dessert is not just a regular donut decorated to look a pizza, it’s boasting bonafide pizzeria ingredients.

“I think Little Nero’s [the pizzeria from “Home Alone”] would be proud,” an Instagram post about the new seasonal treats reads. “Features a homemade San Marzano pizza sauce and freshly grated whole milk mozzarella cheese.”

According to Passo, the “Home Alone”-inspired dessert also features a classic donut glaze, which makes for a unique combination of flavors.

“It’s definitely a little sweet and a little savory. I still glazed it because I believe donuts should be, and if i wouldn’t have, it would have just been basically like pizza bread,” she said. “I think it’s unique and not completely out of left field because pizza sauce can be sweet.”

You can pre-order the Cheese Pizza Glazed Donut on Rose Dough’s website. It can be picked up on Dec. 17. Rose Dough, which is online-based, will offer their entire Christmas Movie Collection until Dec. 31.
