This new cookie is taking Columbus by storm

Lion Cub’s Cookies is always a popular Columbus dessert spot, but one new flavor in particular is breaking records for the Grandview eatery, and capturing tastebuds across Columbus.

Say hello to the Dunk-a-Lion.

Starting with a sugar cookie base, this new Columbus cookie adds Funfetti sprinkles and is served alongside a generous portion of buttercream icing for dunking.

Sound familiar? According to Lion Cub’s owner Bradley Kaplan, these sweet treats are modeled off of Dunkaroos, a throwback 90s snack featuring kangaroo-shaped cookies and frosting cups.

Maybe it’s the nostalgia, or maybe they’re just that good, but Lion Cub’s new cookie has made waves since it was introduced last week.

According to Kaplan, the Grandview cookie shop’s typical weekly output is around 8,000 cookies. Last week alone, they sold 18,000, in addition to 2,500 frosting cups.

“Keep in mind we are only open five days a week,” Kaplan said. “We also had to close early each day, and even had to open late on Sunday, all to make sure we could still have cookies available the next day.”

The smaller Dunk-a-Lions were Lion Cub’s first foray into what it considers mini-cookies (although their regular-sized cookies are what most would consider gigantic), and this means they were only available via in-store pickup.

Lion’s Cub operates in weekly rotations, meaning the Dunk-a-Lion is gone for now, but Kaplan said it will eventually rotate back into the lineup. And if nostalgia is your thing, this week’s cookie menu, jam-packed with Girl Scout cookie-inspired flavor, isn’t a bad option either.
