Man sentenced to decades in prison for orchestrating armed robberies in Short North

Jack McLaughlin

A Columbus man has been sentenced to 28 to 30.5 years in prison for his role in a series of armed robberies in the Short North.

On Nov. 11, 20 year-old Basho Arno was sentenced by Franklin County Judge Michael. The sentence came from six total aggravated robbery charges, all of which occurred last summer in the Short North.

The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office said that between July and August of last year, Arno coordinated a string of armed robberies in the Short North. The crimes were perpetrated by juveniles except for Arno, who was the only adult in the group.

In many of the robberies, victims would be held at gunpoint and forced to give away their banking information. They would later find funds withdrawn from their accounts.

According to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office, there were a dozen incidents that matched the group’s scheme, but only four victims came forward and cooperated. Arno originally pleaded guilty in August.
