We love a good nature documentary as much as anyone else, but sometimes it’s just as exciting to get outside and see the world up close, with your very own eyes.

From April 29 through May 7, COSI has invited our community to take an up close and personal look at the world around us, and contribute to scientific research at the same time. Central Ohioans were asked to participate in a BioBlitz–a part of the annual COSI Science Festival–in which community members work together to find as many species as possible in Ohio.

Participants can download the free app, iNaturalist, and use it to take photos of as many different organisms as they can find. There are also community events at Grange Insurance Audubon Center, Blacklick Woods Nature Center, and more, where visitors get an opportunity to document birds, plants, fungi, and more.

Check out some of the coolest finds below:

Flat-backed Millipede

Bald Eagle

White-tailed Deer

Sandhill Crane

Muskrat

Barred Owl

Great Blue Heron

Gray Ratsnake

Eastern Box Turtle

Dark Fishing Spider

Red-tailed Hawk
