Our list of the most exciting new and soon-to-open pizza shops in Columbus

Jack McLaughlin

With Pizza & Beer Week kicking off today, we thought it was as good a time as ever to bring you a rundown of some of the best new and upcoming pizza concepts in the city. While these spots aren’t featured on the Pizza & Beer Week menu, there’s so much good pizza in Ohio’s capital city that we wanted to share it all with you.

Duderino’s Pizza, 909 W. 5th Ave. (inside Endeavor Brewing)

While Duderino’s might not be on the radar of all the pizza lovers in Central Ohio just yet, it’s likely the pizzeria will be soon. This one-man, Roman style pizza spot held its first ever pop-up inside Endeavor Brewing earlier this year, and plans to do so on a regular basis.

DiCarlo’s Pizza, 20 S. State St. (Westerville)

This Northeast Ohio staple—known for including a heap of unmelted cheese on top of its pies—announced a new Columbus location (there are currently two others in Central Ohio) late last year. While we don’t have an official opening date just yet, the pizzeria is slated to open next month.

Big Daddy Pizza, 12998 National Rd. (Etna)

One of the newest concepts on our list, Big Daddy Pizza opened earlier this month. Dedicated to thinner, Columbus-style pies, Big Daddy Pizza is also notable as it operates out of the former home of lauded Central Ohio spot Pizzaroni’s Pizza, which temporarily closed in March to search for a new location.

Brenz Pizza Co., 4963 E. Dublin Granville Rd. (New Albany)

While Brez is technically based in North Carolina, many Brenz executives have Columbus roots, and the popular pizzeria is embracing them. With current locations in Dublin and Grandview, Brenz is adding a New Albany storefront this year, with plans for several more throughout Central Ohio as well.

The O on Lane, 352 W. Lane Ave.

For several years before its grand opening, while the O on Lane was undergoing construction, the eatery would host massive parking lot parties for Ohio State football games, as it’s located a mere few blocks from Ohio Stadium. After holding its grand opening last week, The O is serving up its own brand of pizza crafted using wood-fired ovens.

Mama Nancy’s Pizza, 3495 E. Broad St.

Mama Nancy’s has been open since late November of last year, so while calling the East Side spot for Chicago-style deep dish pies new might be a stretch, it’s most definitely not a stretch to say they’ve become enormously popular since their opening last fall.

Dough Boyz Pizza, 338 Hubbard Rd. (Galloway)

On the flip side from Mama Nancy’s, Dough Boyz Pizza—which officially opened in early March in Galloway—is serving up traditional Columbus-styles pizza, meaning thing, crispy and typically square cut. This spot officially opened earlier this year in Galloway.

Aracri on Gay, 51 E.Gay St.

Longtime Columbus pizza-maker and owner of Aracri Pizzeria and formerly Cafe Napolitana Palmo Aracri is at it again. After mulling a relocation to the suburbs, Aracri chose to relocate Downtown’s historic Cafe Napolitana to a new storefront only several blocks away, under the new name Aracri on Gay. The spot, which opened earlier this year, features Aracri’s same great pizza with an updated interior.
