White Castle adding new 1920s-inspired hamburger as permanent menu item

Columbus-based burger giant White Castle is celebrating its 101st birthday this year by adding a brand-new burger with an old soul.

Famous for its Sliders–which are largely defined by their thinner patty–White Castle’s new burger, called the 1921 Slider, will feature a thicker, seasoned beef patty. The new slider will also be served with cheddar cheese, grilled caramelized onions, a slice of Roma tomato, lettuce and pickles.

The 1921 Slider is available now at all White Castle locations.

“The 1921 Slider brings our menu full circle to the hamburger that started it all,” said Lynn Blashford, chief marketing officer for White Castle in a press release. “It’s been so popular in our limited release that we can’t wait for Cravers in all of our restaurant markets to enjoy this fresh take on our 101-year-old slider recipe.”

The burger was originally tested in the Cincinnati market throughout last year. According to White Castle, it was so popular that the burger’s test market was expanded to include St. Louis, Nashville and Louisville.
