Pickleball is exploding in popularity across the country, but you don’t need to be outside of central Ohio to catch the sport’s largest amateur tournament this summer.

The Columbus-based World Pickleball Tour (WPT) is bringing its globetrotting tournament to central Ohio Aug. 4-6 with the WPT Columbus Challenger. The tournament will be held at the new Columbus pickleball facility Pickle & Chill, which is located at 880 W. Henderson Rd.

The WPT Columbus Challenger will be played throughout the venue’s 19 new pickleball courts, featuring multiple skill brackets, five different age brackets and other divisions.

“The WPT is thrilled to bring the tour home to Columbus and proud to make this tour stop the biggest and best yet,” said Alex Horn, General Manager of WPT in a press release. “We can’t wait to host 500 of the Midwest’s amateur pickleball players on the brand new beautiful outdoor courts at Pickle & Chill with great partners like North High Brewing by our side.”

The tournament is open to entrants, who can sign up here through July 28. All gold medalists from the event will be invited to the 2024 WPT Amateur Invitational Championships this January in Rockwall, Texas for their chance to win a share of the $175,000 prize pool.
