Central Ohio-based YouTuber flies massive paper airplane claimed to be “world’s biggest”

A central Ohio-based YouTuber and content creator took a truly massive paper airplane to the sky last week, and he used a popular local park to do it.

Ross Smith—who is located in Galena, Ohio and has amassed nearly 4 million TikTok followers—posted videos to multiple platforms that depict him launching an enormous paper airplane off a steep hill at Alum Creek State Park.

“We’re gonna take the world’s largest paper airplane and throw it off the side of a cliff and see what happens! How far do you think it’ll fly?? Do you think Jon will be able to catch it?? Let us know in the comments,” a video description posted by Smith reads.

While the plane is massive and Smith refers to it as the world’s largest paper airplane, its actual size is unclear, and according to the Guinness Book of World Records, the world’s largest paper airplane was constructed in 2013 by students attending a technical college in germany. 

The 2013 plane had a wingspan of 59.74 feet. While we don’t get an official measurement of Smith’s aircraft, and the team of the Ohio-based content creator could not be reached for comment by the time this story was published, Smith’s paper airplane appears to be significantly shy of the mark for the world’s largest.
