The name and logo of Columbus’ newest professional sports team has finally been revealed

The city of Columbus is home to a brand-new professional sports team, and its first-ever major professional women’s sports team.

At a press conference yesterday, the team’s official name, logo and more was revealed. It will be known as the Columbus Fury. The team will be a part of the Pro Volleyball Federation.

The Fury, which will call Nationwide Arena its home, will undertake its inaugural 24-game season in 2024.

“This is a very exciting day for our family and for the city of Columbus,” said Jeff Gilger, who owns the team alongside his wife, Beth Gilger, ina press release. “We considered many, many prospective names, and our goal was to come up with an identity that would be transformative within the market and represent the elegant power and athletic ability of our world-class athletes, along with an aggressive spirit that comes with breaking a glass ceiling and embracing new opportunities.”

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback and Ohio native Joe Burrow and members of his family, alongside musician Jason Derulo, are both reportedly among the team’s founding partners.

The Columbus Fury logo, depicting a female warrior, incorporates elements of other local sports teams as well, according to a press release. Featuring colors referred to as Fury Red and Bold Pewter, the team’s color scheme is a “nod to both the Ohio State women’s volleyball program and also the team’s Nationwide Arena brethren, the Columbus Blue Jackets.”
