This Ohio county park has swimming & scuba areas with waters ‘rivaling the Caribbean in clarity’
Sparkling turquoise waters, a sandy beach, and scuba diving – it might sound like I’m describing my ideal vacation in the Caribbean, but the lack of palm trees reveals that this hidden gem is actually just about a two hour drive away from Downtown Columbus.
Welcome to White Star Quarry in Gibsonburg, OH, a haven for scuba divers and beach lovers who don’t live near the ocean but still crave an aquatic scenery. While we may not have a coral reef nearby, the scuba diving section of the waters is stocked with rare fish and fascinating underwater attractions, such as abandoned buses, sunken boats, and even motorcycles.
White Star Beach, which is connected to the diving quarry, offers a crystal-clear swimming and relaxation area, too. No need to bring or rent any scuba gear – just bring your swimsuit. Depths reach around 15 feet, but there’s a designated shallow area for wading, as well. Visitors can bask in the sun on the sandy shore, float in the tranquil water, or jump off the diving board – all with the reassurance of having lifeguards on duty. Their website says that their water is “…rivaling the Caribbean in clarity.”

This Sandusky county park seems like a perfect destination for a good ol’ staycation.
