According to ‘Food & Wine,’ this the best donut in Ohio
‘Food & Wine’ has revealed its list of the top donut in each state, and while a Columbus bakery didn’t make the cut, the donut tapped for the top spot sure looks worthy of a day trip.
According to the story, The Clunker, a Cincinnati favorite, is the best in Ohio.
“Roughly the size of an average fist and about as daintily shaped, most people go for the ones covered in glaze, though in the past we’ve seen plain and powdered sugar-dusted as well. In a surprise twist, the cake on the inside will be wonderfully light,” the story reads.

‘Food & Wine’ taps Bonomini Bakery on Cincinnati’s north side as the best place to grab one, and while this eatery is temporarily closed (with its future unfortunately uncertain), clunkers can be found at other spots across the city.
There doesn’t appear to be a one-size-fits-all description for The Clunker, but the style is typically served as a large, deep-fried cake donut with a surprisingly light interior, and a standard sugar glaze is the most common way you’ll find them.
